Ghanaian Community In UK Safe Amidst Unrest
- Ankomah says Ghanaians are safe
- The protests were sparked by misinformation about immigration
- Ghanaians have been advised to remain indoors
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah, has assured Ghanaians living in the country of their safety amidst the recent wave of protests that have gripped parts of the United Kingdom.
The protests, sparked by misinformation about immigration, erupted into violence last month following a fatal stabbing incident.
Despite the unrest, the High Commissioner confirmed that the Ghanaian community has largely remained unaffected.
While acknowledging an isolated incident involving a Ghanaian citizen who was threatened while on a bus, Mr. Ankomah emphasized that there have been no significant reports of harm to Ghanaians.
To further safeguard the Ghanaian community, the High Commission has been actively monitoring the situation and engaging with Ghanaian leaders in the UK.
Ghanaians have been advised to remain indoors after 7 pm and avoid areas where protests are likely to occur.
The High Commissioner’s reassurances come as a relief to many Ghanaians living in the UK, who have been following the developments with concern.
