The Oguaa Traditional Council has instituted a noise ban in Cape Coast from August 6 to August 22, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming Fetu Festival.
The Fetu Festival, which takes place annually in the first week of September, celebrates the season’s bountiful harvest and expresses gratitude to the 77 deities of the Oguaa Traditional Area.
During this period, the council has outlined several restrictions to honor local cultural practices and ensure a respectful atmosphere for the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
The ban prohibits noise-making activities such as quarrelling, fufu pounding after 6 pm, and playing drums or loud music.
Additionally, loud wailing or mourning is banned, fishing in the Fosu Lagoon is prohibited until September 3, and funeral activities are suspended until September 21, 2024.
These measures aim to foster a serene and respectful environment as the community prepares for the festival.
