Paris Saint-Germain have made a significant statement of intent by securing the services of highly-rated midfielder Joao Neves from Benfica.

The French giants have agreed to pay a substantial fee of up to £60m for the 19-year-old Portuguese international, who has been tipped for greatness.

Neves, who had attracted interest from Premier League giants Manchester United, has signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

He burst onto the scene at Benfica, quickly establishing himself as a key player for his boyhood club. Despite his tender age, the midfielder has already amassed 75 appearances and contributed four goals.

PSG’s move for Neves comes on the heels of the high-profile departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. The acquisition of the young Portuguese talent signifies the club’s ambition to rebuild and compete at the highest level.

“Joao is a prodigious talent and one of the most exciting young players in European football,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. “We are delighted to welcome him to Paris. He has a bright future ahead of him and we believe he will be a key player for us for many years to come.”

Neves, who has already earned nine caps for Portugal and featured at this summer’s European Championship, expressed his excitement at joining PSG. “It’s a dream come true to sign for a club of PSG’s stature,” he said. “I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and win trophies.”

The transfer fee for Neves could potentially become the most expensive deal for a Portuguese player in history, highlighting the high regard in which he is held.
