Musk Responds To PM’s Rebuke Over UK Unrest Post

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Justice Minister Heidi Alexander have criticized Elon Musk for his comments on the recent unrest in the UK.

Musk suggested that “civil war is inevitable” after violent clashes between police and protesters, sparked by the fatal stabbing of three girls in Southport.

The government has condemned Musk’s remarks as “totally unjustifiable” and “pretty deplorable”.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson emphasized that social media companies, including X (formerly Twitter), have a responsibility to prevent the spread of misinformation and criminal activity online.

The government has urged these companies to take action, with the Technology Secretary meeting with representatives from major platforms to stress their responsibility in combating hateful misinformation.

Additionally, the Chartered Institute for IT has called for media regulator Ofcom to consider fining X for hosting content that may have contributed to the unrest.
