The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi as the chairman of the University of Cape Coast governing council. Ewusi claims that Amonoo-Kuofi’s conduct is affecting the smooth running of the university and that his removal is necessary for the collective interest of the school.

The petition alleges that Amonoo-Kuofi is pursuing a personal agenda, which is detrimental to the university’s well-being. Ewusi states that he has made numerous efforts to request Amonoo-Kuofi to conduct himself in a more statesmanlike manner, but these efforts have been futile.

The petition accuses Amonoo-Kuofi of exhibiting autocratic tendencies in his decision-making, lacking a fundamental grasp of corporate governance principles. Amonoo-Kuofi is also accused of making unilateral decisions without consulting other members of the University Council.

Ewusi attached documents to the petition, which allegedly show Amonoo-Kuofi’s clashes with university unions and his consistent attacks on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong. These attacks have caused tension and division within the university community, with faculty and staff expressing concerns about the impact on the university’s reputation.

Amonoo-Kuofi recently announced the termination of Prof. Boampong’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor, a move that has sparked controversy. Ewusi’s petition calls for Akufo-Addo’s intervention to investigate Amonoo-Kuofi’s conduct and remove him as chairman of the governing council to ensure the university’s smooth operation.
