IPPs Urge Faster IMF Disbursement
- Government owes IPPs approximately $2.0 billion
- The timely disbursement of funds is crucial
- The Chamber requests immediate action
The Chamber for Independent Power Generators is urging Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin-Adam, to expedite the disbursement of funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Despite the announcement of the IMF cash release over a month ago, there has been no action towards disbursing these funds, causing significant delays in renegotiations with IPPs regarding legacy arrears.
The IPPs claim the government owes them approximately $2.0 billion, and the Chamber emphasizes the importance of resolving these financial obligations promptly to ensure a stable and reliable power supply.
The timely disbursement of funds is crucial to maintaining trust and cooperation with IPPs, and the Chamber requests immediate action from the Minister of Finance to honor the debt and facilitate negotiations.
