President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs Programme in Nsuaem, Central Region, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at harnessing Ghana’s water resources for sustainable livelihoods, food security, and job creation.
The program seeks to bridge the gap between domestic fish production and demand, reducing reliance on imports and conserving foreign exchange.
It will provide training and support to aspiring fish farmers, create thousands of jobs, and stimulate related industries.
The initiative is expected to generate 50,000 jobs along the aquaculture value chain and make fish more accessible and affordable, combating malnutrition and improving public health.
The government will provide youth with training, skills development, and seed capital to start profitable fish farming businesses.
President Akufo-Addo urged private investors to seize opportunities in the aquaculture sector and called on all Ghanaians to support the initiative, promising a brighter future for Ghanaian youth and women.
