Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reaffirmed his commitment to Julian Alvarez, describing the Argentina striker as “absolutely our player” amidst speculation about his future.
Alvarez, 24, has been linked to Atletico Madrid, but Guardiola downplayed the rumors after City’s 4-2 win over Chelsea.
When asked about Alvarez’s situation, Guardiola responded, “No news. I don’t have anything to say. He will come back.”
Sources close to the club have confirmed talks between City and Atletico, but no formal bid has been made.
Alvarez, whose contract runs until 2028, has been representing Argentina at the Paris Olympics and previously stated that he would decide on his future after the Games.
Guardiola emphasized his confidence in Alvarez, saying, “I count on him… When he comes back, I’ll hug and congratulate him for the Copa America and Olympics, and we’ll start working together.”
Guardiola dismissed concerns about Alvarez’s future, focusing instead on the team’s immediate needs. “I have a thousand million things to think about the team. What happens in the meantime is not my concern.”
