Ghana To Build $450m Manganese Refinery In Nsuta

President Nana Akufo-Addo is set to break ground on a $450 million manganese refinery project in Nsuta, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Western Region.

According to Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor, the government has finalized negotiations with Ghana Manganese Company Limited’s majority shareholder.

The refinery will enhance manganese quality from 27% to 40%, enabling the production and export of refined products, including battery-grade manganese for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

Minister Jinapor announced this at the 8th University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Biennial International Mining and Mineral Conference in Tarkwa, themed “Innovations in Mining and Mineral Processing: Expanding the Frontiers of Mining Technology”.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to value addition and economic diversification, aiming to create jobs, drive industrialization, and enhance global competitiveness.

Minister Jinapor emphasized the need for comprehensive geological investigations to identify and quantify critical mineral resources, ensuring a diversified and informed mining sector.
