US Border Apprehensions Decline For Fifth Consecutive Month

Story Highlights
  • The US southern border crossing has decreased
  • Government data confirmed decline in migrant apprehensions
  • The Biden administration processed around 1,500 migrants daily

According to official data, the number of unauthorized border crossings by migrants at the US southern border has decreased for the fifth consecutive month.

In July, US Border Patrol agents apprehended approximately 57,000 migrants, the lowest number since September 2020.

This represents a significant decline from December, when around 250,000 migrants were apprehended.

The Biden administration attributes this decrease to recent measures aimed at addressing illegal immigration, a key political issue.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas cited actions such as an executive order allowing for expedited deportations without processing asylum claims.

Government data shows a steady decline in migrant apprehensions since February, with numbers decreasing each month.

Additionally, the Biden administration has been processing around 1,500 migrants daily through a smartphone app that schedules appointments with US border agents.

Mexican officials have also been working to curb illegal migration by stopping individuals before they attempt to cross into the US.

The southern border remains a contentious political issue ahead of the November election, with both parties exchanging criticism on the handling of border policy.
