EC Begins Voter Registration Mop-Up
- The mop-up exercise will be conducted at 268 district offices
- Applicants must present a Ghana Card or Ghana Passport to register
- Registration centers will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m
The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced its mop-up voter registration today, August 1, running through to Saturday, August 3, 2024.
This three-day initiative aims to register individuals who have turned 18 since the recent limited registration period or those who were unable to register earlier.
The EC anticipates enrolling between 50,000 and 70,000 new voters.
Registration will be available at 268 district offices, 26 public universities, and 41 prison centers nationwide. The previous limited registration, held from May 7 to 29, 2024, resulted in 778,447 new voters being added to the register, including 408,332 females (52.45%) and 370,115 males (47.55%).
The current provisional voter count stands at 18,681,366. The EC has partnered with Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) to ensure reliable online registration throughout the exercise.
Applicants must present either a Ghana Card or Ghana Passport to verify their eligibility. If these documents are not available, two registered voters must act as guarantors, with each guarantor allowed to support up to 10 applicants. Notably, individuals who previously guaranteed for 10 voters during the limited registration cannot do so again for this mop-up.
Political parties are allowed to send agents to oversee the registration process, and they are encouraged to ensure their representatives behave professionally to maintain a smooth operation. Additionally, the EC advises that only individuals who have reached 18 years old should participate in this mop-up exercise.
Registration centers will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
