2024 Election: CODEO to Mobilize 4,000 Observers to Ensure Transparency – Kojo Asante

The Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced its plans to deploy a significant number of observers across Ghana for the upcoming December 7 elections. CODEO, a member of the Global Network of Domestic Election Monitors (GNDEM), adheres to the principles of non-partisan election observation and monitoring.

As part of its observation efforts, CODEO will deploy 4,000 observers to a representative sample of polling stations in all 275 constituencies across the 16 regions of Ghana. These observers will be designated as Rapid Response Observers (RROs), tasked with monitoring the electoral process in real-time.

Kojo Asante of the CODEO Secretariat outlined the organization’s plans for the upcoming elections. Asante highlighted CODEO’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, citing their deployment of observers and parallel vote tabulation.

The parallel vote tabulation will enable CODEO to independently verify the presidential results, providing an additional layer of transparency. In addition to its observation efforts, CODEO will also roll out initiatives to counter disinformation and misinformation, in collaboration with other civil society organizations.

Asante emphasized the importance of addressing disinformation and misinformation, citing it as a significant challenge in the electoral process. By deploying observers and implementing complementary interventions, CODEO aims to promote a free, fair, and transparent electoral process in Ghana.
