Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and commonly known as Nana B, has sharply criticized John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, over Mahama’s remarks on the Court of Appeal’s ruling in the ambulance case.
On Tuesday, July 30, Mahama took to Facebook to celebrate the Court of Appeal’s acquittal and discharge of former Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, calling it a victory for the rule of law. He praised the ruling as a vindication of his belief that the case was politically motivated.
Dr. Forson and Richard Jakpa, who were both on trial, were acquitted and discharged on the same day. The verdict has been celebrated by Minority MPs as a significant victory for justice.
The NDC and John Dramani Mahama have faced criticism for their stance on the judiciary, accusing the Akufo-Addo administration of appointing loyalists.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 31, Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, harshly criticized the NDC and Mahama for their sudden praise of the judiciary following the favorable Court of Appeal ruling. He condemned their “regrettable” double standards, suggesting that their actions undermine democratic principles.
Nana B questioned whether Mahama and the NDC would maintain their positive view if the Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision. He remarked, “It is puzzling how John Mahama and the NDC are now lauding a judiciary they have long criticized. Suddenly, the rule of law is upheld, and judges appointed by Akufo-Addo are no longer deemed partisan.”
Despite disagreeing with the Court’s decision, Nana B affirmed the NPP’s acceptance of it and expressed hope that Mahama and the NDC will remain consistent in their stance, regardless of future court rulings. The Court of Appeal had acquitted Dr. Forson and overturned the trial court’s order for him to present his defense.
