Accra was ablaze with musical brilliance on Tuesday, July 30, as the Indigenous band Kwan Pa marked their 7th anniversary with a sold-out concert at Zen Gardens in Labone.
The band, celebrated for their dedication to African indigenous music, captivated the audience with their dynamic performance, affirming their status as one of Africa’s premier musical acts.
The evening featured an exhilarating live show that highlighted Kwan Pa’s distinctive fusion of Palm Wine music, Highlife, and Adowa rhythms. The intricate guitar arrangements and the enchanting sounds of the Seprewa—a traditional harp-lute—created an entrancing atmosphere that had attendees dancing throughout the night.
The event also included a ceremonial cake-cutting to commemorate the band’s milestone, accompanied by cheers from the enthusiastic audience. The concert attracted a notable guest list, including legendary Ghanaian actors Fred Amugi and Pascaline Edwards.
The ensemble, consisting of Hassan, Kwabena Safo, Nanay Oweni, and Kwame Agbahoasi Minamo, has made significant contributions to the preservation and advancement of African indigenous music. Their innovative style has redefined the genre and garnered them numerous awards and a dedicated fanbase.
