Experienced Fisherman Drowns in Volta River

Lotsu Godson, a 40-year-old fisherman and diver, drowned in the Volta River near Adidome in the Volta Region.

His body was discovered floating in the river on Monday after a three-day search by his family.

Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member of Adidome Central and the deceased’s brother, told the press that Lotsu was in good health and had no known medical issues that could have contributed to the drowning.

The family had been extensively searching for Lotsu after he went missing, until his body was found. The police were alerted, and the body was recovered and taken to the morgue. Medical experts advised that a quick burial was necessary.

The tragic event has deeply shocked the family and his friends. Guggisberg expressed disbelief, noting, “Our brother was an experienced fisherman and diver who could stay underwater for extended periods. We’re all in shock, but he’s gone.”

The Assembly Member urged local fishermen to exercise increased caution in their activities on the river to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Adidome Police reported that there was no suspicion of foul play.

Following clearance from the Adidome Magistrate Court, the family laid Lotsu to rest on Monday night.
