An articulated truck with registration number GX 3443-21 was involved in a devastating accident at the Bribrong LPG filling station at Koforidua Magazine junction in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The truck, believed to be coming from Togo and heading towards Kumasi, was transporting a cargo of beans, rice, maize, sugar, and second-hand clothes.

The accident occurred at around 7:20 am yesterday when the truck attempted to navigate a sharp curve at a slow speed to avoid the mud on the road. Unfortunately, the truck lost balance and fell onto an empty passenger vehicle with registration number ER 792-X parked at the filling station.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the accident, but the passenger vehicle was severely damaged. Eyewitnesses at the scene attributed the accident to the wet clay being used in the construction process of the road, which made it slippery and hazardous.

Others blamed the delay in completing the road construction project, which has left the road in a deplorable state. Alex Efum, an eyewitness at the scene, praised the swift response of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, who were present in large numbers to protect life and property.

The security agencies, with support from other agencies, managed to lift the truck from the passenger vehicle, preventing further damage. The accident serves as a reminder of the need for urgent attention to be given to the road construction project to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
