Police Officer Summoned Over Missing GHC94,000
- A police officer is facing legal action
- The money was part of a larger GHC338,000 scam
- The case is now in court, with the police officer summoned to explain the missing funds
An Accra court has issued a subpoena for the Madina District Crime Officer to testify regarding GHC94,000 allegedly received from an accused individual.
This development follows the appearance of Emmanuel Nash, an event organizer, at the Adentan Circuit Court on charges of defrauding a woman of GHC338,000.
According to court proceedings, Nash allegedly refunded GHC94,000 to the Crime Officer upon his arrest and was granted police enquiry bail. However, the officer is accused of not forwarding the money to the complainant. Nash subsequently lodged a complaint with the Police Intelligence and Professional Standard Bureau.
In response, the Adentan Circuit Court has subpoenaed the Crime Officer and set Nash’s bail at GHC350,000 with two sureties. Nash has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses. His accomplice, Mariam Appiah-Korang, remains at large.
The court, under the presiding judge Angela Attachie, has adjourned the case to August 21 for a Case Management Conference.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, representing the prosecution, informed the court that the complainant, Olivia Osei Mensah, a trader from Madina, Accra, had paid GHC338,000 to Nash and Mariam for alleged recruitment into security services, but no recruits were provided, and the money was not refunded.
The prosecution reported that Nash admitted to receiving the funds for recruitment purposes, and Mariam, along with her sureties, is now on the run. To date, GHC94,000 has been recovered from Nash.
