Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, the Member of Parliament for Ho West and a key supporter of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, has urged clergy and Christians to pray for divine intervention to convince President Akufo-Addo to approve the legislation.

Addressing attendees at a groundbreaking and fundraising event at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Sokode Gbogame, Ho East Presbytery, Bedzra highlighted the need for fervent prayer to avert what he believes could be divine displeasure if LGBTQ practices are legalized in Ghana.

He cited the biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah as a warning, suggesting that Ghana is facing a spiritual test.

Bedzra also questioned President Akufo-Addo’s priorities, criticizing the focus on constructing a national cathedral while there is hesitation in signing the Anti-LGBTQ Bill into law.

He provocatively asked, “Who is he deceiving?” and called for united prayers to persuade the President to endorse the bill.

Passed by Parliament in February 2024, the Anti-LGBTQ Bill aims to limit LGBTQ rights with severe penalties, including imprisonment, for engaging in or promoting LGBTQ activities.

The bill is currently under legal scrutiny, with a court case postponed and the President awaiting resolution before taking further action. The bill continues to generate considerable debate both within Ghana and internationally.
