The Minority in Parliament has criticized the government’s move to recruit 15,000 nurses and midwives, labeling it as a political maneuver.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced that the recruitment will commence on Monday, August 5, 2024, with a total of 15,200 positions available.
The MoH released a statement on Friday, July 26, 2024, confirming that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has approved the financial clearance required for this recruitment drive.
Prospective applicants are instructed to apply via the MoH’s online portal, with the application window closing on Friday, August 23, 2024.
The Ministry has assured the public that the recruitment process is free of charge and warned against anyone soliciting fees under the guise of facilitating applications.
However, the Minority alleges that this recruitment effort is merely a part of the government’s political strategy, recalling a similar situation during the 2020 campaign period when recruitment portals were opened but appointments were only made effective after the elections.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ranking Member on the Health Committee, advised health professionals to remain wary of such last-minute political tactics.
