Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education, has announced a forthcoming limited recruitment initiative for Senior High School (SHS) teachers. In a Facebook post dated July 30, Dr. Adutwum revealed that the recruitment process will begin next week. This move is part of the Ministry’s efforts to address staffing needs in secondary education while managing resource constraints.

Dr. Adutwum encouraged prospective applicants to stay vigilant for further information regarding the application process and the specific focus areas for the recruitment drive. “I’m pleased to announce that a limited recruitment drive for high school teachers will commence next week,” the Minister stated. He emphasized that more details about how to apply and the particular subjects or regions targeted by the recruitment will be provided soon.

This announcement follows a recent development in the healthcare sector. On July 26, 2024, the Ministry of Health (MoH) disclosed its plan to recruit 15,200 nurses and midwives starting Monday, August 5, 2024. This recruitment was made possible by financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance (MoF), which has provided the necessary funding for this expansion in the healthcare workforce.

For the healthcare recruitment, interested and qualified candidates are instructed to apply via the MoH’s online application portal. Applicants will have the opportunity to choose their preferred agency within the Ministry. The application window will remain open until Friday, August 23, 2024. The MoH has clearly stated that the recruitment process is free of charge, warning applicants to avoid any payments to individuals or entities claiming to expedite the application process.

The parallel announcements from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health underscore ongoing efforts by the government to address staffing needs across critical sectors. Both ministries are working to ensure a transparent and accessible recruitment process for eligible candidates, while also combating any fraudulent practices that may arise during these periods of hiring.
