GNFS Appeals for Public Support to Acquire Essential Fire Safety Equipment

Story Highlights
  • NFS highlighted the critical shortage of basic firefighting tools
  • The appeal follows a troubling rise in fire outbreaks
  • GNFS emphasized governmental efforts alone are not enough without public support

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging Ghanaians to contribute towards acquiring vital fire safety equipment to help mitigate the severe impacts of fires.

This plea comes in response to a series of recent fire incidents that have resulted in considerable loss of life and property. The GNFS emphasized the necessity of proactive fire safety measures and noted that it cannot effectively fulfill its mandate without the appropriate tools.

In a social media post, the Service highlighted that governmental efforts alone are not enough without public support, and thus they are seeking assistance from citizens. They asked, “Who will be kind enough to purchase these life-saving tools to help us save more lives in Ghana?”

The GNFS underscored the urgent need for both households and businesses to be equipped with fundamental fire safety items like fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fire blankets.

The recent increase in fire outbreaks in residential areas and markets across Ghana has raised alarm, revealing a critical shortage of basic firefighting tools that hampers efforts to control fires effectively.

The GNFS is also advocating for government subsidies on fire safety equipment to make them more accessible to the average Ghanaian, believing this will encourage greater investment in these essential tools.
