Professor Jerry John Kponyo, a telecommunications expert, has called on Ghana to strategically embrace artificial intelligence (AI) to drive economic growth and development.
Speaking at the Ghana Data Science Summit in Kumasi, Prof. Kponyo highlighted AI’s potential to transform sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and finance.
However, he cautioned against the technology’s potential negative impacts and emphasized the need for responsible AI development.
The expert commended Ghana’s AI strategy but stressed the importance of swift implementation to keep pace with global advancements. He also advocated for the creation of Afrocentric datasets to ensure AI systems are inclusive and unbiased.
Delali Agbenyegah, Senior Data Science Lead at Data Science Network, echoed the call for capacity building and grassroots involvement in AI development. He emphasized the importance of tailoring AI solutions to the specific needs of local communities.
