Akufo-Addo Reaffirms Commitment to Advancing Healthcare and Education in Ghana
- Significant financial resources have been allocated to improve healthcare infrastructure across Ghana
- The expansion of UHAS will enhance the university’s capacity to train more healthcare professionals
- The government has completed critical health projects
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has underscored that while his government has made notable progress in the health sector, there is still much work to be done.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare and education for every Ghanaian.
Highlighting ongoing national development efforts, Akufo-Addo noted that substantial investments have been made in these areas. He disclosed that GH¢33 billion has been allocated to improve healthcare infrastructure, ensuring broader access to quality health services.
This investment is reflected in the completion of various health facilities, such as the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Wa Regional Hospital, and significant upgrades to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
“These initiatives are part of our broader goal to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” Akufo-Addo stated on Monday, 29th July 2024, during the ceremony where he was awarded his sixth honorary doctorate, this time from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
He also highlighted the commissioning of the $60 million Phase II expansion project at UHAS. This development will boost the University’s ability to train more healthcare professionals, addressing the gap between healthcare demands and the available skilled workforce.
“With cutting-edge facilities and resources, UHAS will lead in health research and innovation, positioning Ghana as a leader in healthcare on the continent. We are grateful to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for their generous support,” he added.
Reflecting on these accomplishments, Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of vision, diligence, and persistence. “Our journey is far from complete, and we remain devoted to advancing healthcare and education for all Ghanaians. Thank you, UHAS, for this esteemed honor, and may God bless our homeland Ghana,” he concluded.
