MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its dedication to the advancement of young women in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.

The telecommunications giant made this pledge at the culmination of the annual Girls in ICT program, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization at the University of Ghana.

Adwoa Wiafe, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, emphasized the company’s alignment with the program’s objectives. “We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote digital inclusion, and the Girls in ICT program is a perfect example,” she said. “MTN has invested over GHS15.6 million since 2021, training thousands of girls and teachers in essential ICT skills.”

The program aims to equip young girls with coding, website design, game development, and animation skills. Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications and Digitalization, commended MTN for its consistent support and urged other organizations to join the initiative.

The event recognized the achievements of top-performing students, teachers, and partners, with awards including laptops, cash prizes, and fully equipped ICT laboratories for the schools of the top three girls.

MTN’s continued involvement in the Girls in ICT program underscores its role in bridging the gender gap in the technology industry and fostering a digitally empowered society.
