The Minority in Parliament has formally petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the ongoing secret recruitment into various security agencies.

The petition, dated July 16, follows reports of a planned recruitment of 11,000 personnel from a backlog of applicants over the years.

The Minority caucus has raised concerns about the recruitment exercise, labeling it as secretive and unfair to the larger Ghanaian public.

They have also accused members of the New Patriotic Party, including parliamentary candidates, of facilitating the recruitment of their loyalists into the security services.

The Minority has reiterated its commitment to vigilance, emphasizing that it will employ every legitimate means to stop the “secret, illegal, and unfair recruitment”.

The petition to CHRAJ seeks an investigation into the recruitment processes of the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.

The Minority is seeking relief from CHRAJ to direct that advertisements for recruitment into public services be published in national newspapers.

Additionally, the Minority is seeking relief from CHRAJ to order the security agencies to provide details of the processes and procedures adopted in the recruitment exercise.

The petitioners are praying for remedies, including the publication of recruitment advertisements in national newspapers and the provision of details of the recruitment processes.

The Minority’s action is aimed at ensuring equal access to all and preventing unfair recruitment practices in the security services.
