Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has called on voters to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch on Saturday, July 27, Ayariga criticized Dr. Bawumia for allegedly steering the country towards economic instability during his tenure as Chairman of the government’s Economic Management Team.
Ayariga highlighted that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, Ghana’s economy faced significant challenges including near-collapse, banking sector failures, increased indebtedness, and widespread corruption.
Drawing a comparison between NDC’s flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Bawumia, Ayariga pointed out Mahama’s track record of achieving robust economic growth during his tenure as Chairman of the Economic Management Team in 2010. Ayariga argued that Mahama’s economic stewardship stands in stark contrast to what he described as Dr. Bawumia’s economic mismanagement.
“The choice facing us, especially as people from the North, is clear: between someone who has a history of economic and financial collapse and someone who has a proven record of delivering the best economy Ghana has ever seen. Who will we vote for? John Dramani Mahama,” Ayariga asserted during his address.
