Students Left Stranded as Fire Destroys 3-Storey Hostel at KNUST

A devastating fire swept through a three-storey accommodation facility at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Thursday night. The building, known as “Father Hostel”, was severely damaged in the blaze, leaving students who lived there without a place to stay.

At least nine rooms were destroyed in the fire, with students losing all their belongings to the flames. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, but students in adjacent buildings were left shaken by the ordeal.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but victims recounted that it started in a single room before quickly spreading throughout the building. Students described how their valuables were consumed by the flames within minutes, leaving them with nothing.

Eyewitnesses reported that the KNUST Fire Department’s emergency number was initially unreachable, causing a delay of 30 minutes before they could respond to the incident. This delay may have contributed to the severity of the damage, as the fire was able to spread unchecked for a longer period.

The victims of the fire are now left to pick up the pieces and try to rebuild their lives, with many struggling to come to terms with their loss. The university authorities have promised to investigate the incident and provide support to those affected by the fire.
