South African rapper Malome Vector, born Bokang Moleli, has tragically passed away in a car accident in the Free State on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred while Vector was traveling with musical collaborators Lizwi Wokuqala and Puleng Phoofolo.
Ambitiouz Entertainment, Vector’s former record label, confirmed the news, stating, “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of a shining beacon; the Lion of Lesotho’s sun has set. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones and industry peers during this time of profound loss.”
According to the Free State Department of Health, three men were declared dead at the scene, while two others were transported to Boitumelo Regional Hospital with injuries. A source revealed that Vector was traveling from Gauteng to Lesotho to shoot a music video when the accident occurred.
The Free State Department of Transport indicated that a burst tire may have caused the driver to lose control, but the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Malome Vector’s music career saw significant growth after moving to Johannesburg in 2020 and signing with Ambitiouz Entertainment. He gained prominence in South Africa with hits like “Ichu” and “Motho Waka” and won a South African Music Award for Best Music Video of the Year in 2021.
Vector released his debut album, “Karabo,” in 2022, featuring various artists, and an EP titled “1964” earlier this year. Speaking about his album, he said, “The album is about my story, my hustle, which includes my family, especially my daughter. It is based on my true story and my answered prayers.”
