Manchester City’s new signing, Risa Shimizu, has suffered a knee injury that will rule her out of the remainder of the Olympic Games.
The 28-year-old defender joined City this summer from fellow Women’s Super League side West Ham.
She picked up the injury during Japan’s opening match of the tournament, a 2-1 defeat to Spain.
Shimizu will return to Manchester for further assessment by the club’s medical team.
City’s WSL campaign kicks off against Arsenal on September 22nd.
