MTN Ghana has reported a significant number of fibre optic cable cuts in the Ashanti region, with 471 incidents recorded between January and July 2024.
These disruptions, primarily caused by ongoing road construction activities, have led to network outages and service interruptions for some customers.
Speaking at the 2024 Editors’ Forum, Mr. Charles Osei Akoto, the Regional Technical Head of MTN, explained that the cable cuts often result in disconnected network poles, impacting service delivery. Despite the high number of incidents, MTN has managed to limit service disruptions to just 38 cases thanks to its robust network infrastructure.
The company has also faced challenges with nine pole sites being locked up, hindering access for repairs and exacerbating network issues.
To address these challenges, MTN is urging the public to report any encountered fibre cables without damaging them.
The company is also appealing for the resolution of disputes without resorting to locking up pole sites to ensure uninterrupted network services for customers.
