James Kwabena Bomfeh, known as Kabila, has harshly criticized the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for expelling Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, the MP for Sefwi-Wiawso, on July 22, 2024.
Kabila, a former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), found the Speaker’s actions to be highly objectionable. The incident occurred after a heated exchange between Speaker Bagbin and Dr. Afriyie over remarks related to the LGBTQ+ issue.
Dr. Afriyie had challenged Speaker Bagbin’s comments on the matter, calling them prejudicial. In response, Speaker Bagbin deemed Afriyie’s remarks disrespectful and instructed the Marshal to remove him from the chamber.
Kabila condemned Bagbin’s reaction, labeling it as unnecessarily authoritarian. He claimed that the Speaker’s assertion of representing the entire nation is misplaced, declaring, “You don’t represent Ghana…You became Speaker by accident!”
Kabila further criticized the Speaker’s decision to expel Dr. Afriyie as “embarrassing” and incorrect, arguing that such actions should be based on clear violations of parliamentary rules or the constitution.
