Guinness Ghana DJ Awards Returns with Regional Categories in 12th edition

The 2024 edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is set to reinstate its regional categories after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organised by Merqury Republic, this year’s awards will again recognize the top DJs from each of Ghana’s 16 regions, moving away from the previous zonal format which grouped regions into northern, central, and southern zones.

The event was officially inaugurated on Saturday, June 20, 2024, with a vibrant launch ceremony held at the Multimedia Group Limited premises. The event, featuring a range of Ghana’s creative industry talents, was headlined by Guinness Ghana, the leading total beverage business in the country.

This year’s theme, “United by Music,” highlights the power of music to unite communities, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections in Ghana. The theme underscores the role of music in promoting unity, harmony, and collective spirit, transcending societal differences through shared rhythms and melodies.

A standout feature of this year’s awards is the ‘Pub Fest,’ powered by Smirnoff. This dynamic regional roadshow will allow DJs to showcase their talents to diverse audiences across Ghana. The launch, broadcast live on Joy Prime TV, celebrated the creativity and innovation within Ghana’s DJ community and emphasized the evolving music landscape and audience tastes.

The primary goal of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, powered by Smirnoff, is to empower, educate, and reward DJs who significantly contribute to the growth of Ghana’s entertainment industry. The launch marks the beginning of various activities leading up to the main awards ceremony.

Guinness Ghana PLC, which assumed sponsorship of the DJ Awards in 2023, has reinforced its commitment to supporting and recognizing the DJ community. Last year’s event was a testament to the company’s dedication, celebrating a wide array of talented DJs and artists. This year’s event is expected to surpass previous editions in grandeur and excitement.

Yaa Amoah Owusu, Marketing Manager at Guinness Ghana PLC, expressed enthusiasm about the theme and the brand’s support for female DJs. “Music has the incredible ability to unite people from all walks of life. The ‘United By Music’ theme for this year’s Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is a celebration of that unity and the diverse talents that make up our vibrant music industry. We are excited to continue our journey of supporting and empowering DJs and artists in Ghana, and we look forward to an unforgettable event,” she said.

David Quaye, Coordinator for Merqury Republic, highlighted the reintroduction of the regional categories, which were suspended in 2020. The awards will honor DJs across various categories, including Best DJ of the Year, Afrobeat DJ of the Year, Female DJ of the Year, Discovery DJ of the Year, and Event DJ of the Year.

DJ Lord OTB, who won the ultimate DJ of the Year award in 2023, will be vying to retain his title. The 2024 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards festival, scheduled for Saturday, November 9, promises an even more thrilling celebration, bringing together DJs from around the world.
