Sefwi-Wiawso Residents Demand Apology from Speaker Bagbin or Threaten Further Action

Residents of the Sefwi-Wiawso constituency in the Western North Region staged a protest on Wednesday, July 24, urging Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to apologize for ejecting their Member of Parliament, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, from the House.

The controversy arose when Speaker Bagbin deemed Dr Afriyie’s remarks disrespectful and ordered him to leave the Chamber. Despite Majority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh apologizing on behalf of Dr Afriyie, the MP insisted he had done nothing wrong and did not authorize the apology.

In response to the incident, a group of residents, believed to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP), demonstrated against Speaker Bagbin, condemning his actions as disrespectful to their MP and the people of Sefwi-Wiawso.

They have issued a stern ultimatum, demanding an unconditional apology from Speaker Bagbin within a week. The residents have warned of further actions if their demands are not met promptly.
