Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, has voiced his disillusionment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that the party, in its current state, no longer holds his allegiance.

In a recent interview, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng emphasized his alignment with the ideas of the U.P. tradition but also stressed the importance of honoring Kwame Nkrumah for his contributions to Ghana. He acknowledged the role of political traditions but cautioned against demonizing opponents.

However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the present configuration of the NPP. He cited specific grievances related to his experiences following the release of his contentious report on illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report exposed widespread illegal mining activities and implicated several influential figures, resulting in significant backlash.

He voiced concerns about the unjust treatment he received from the party after the report’s publication, which, he believes, underscores deeper governance issues within the NPP.
