The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 30-year-old man in Gomoa Buduburam near Obolo Estate, Central Region, for attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece for GH¢150,000.
The suspect, identified as Nana Kofi Amofa, allegedly brought the child from Ayirabi Nyamibetre village under the guise of assisting her parents with care, but intended to sell her to finance a Canadian Visa.
According to reports, Amofa’s plan was influenced by advice from a friend now residing in Germany, who claimed to have sold family members to finance his own visa acquisition process. The friend allegedly assured Amofa of a contact who could arrange a Canadian Visa in exchange for the specified amount.
Acting on his friend’s advice, Amofa approached a potential buyer in Buduburam and proposed the sale. Sensing the seriousness of the proposition, the buyer promptly alerted the police.
The Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit then coordinated with the informant to apprehend Amofa during the planned transaction.
