Ashaiman-Akosombo Junction Road Project Back on Track as Work Resumes
Construction on the 64km Ashaiman to Akosombo Junction Road has resumed after a nearly year-long suspension. The project, part of the Eastern Corridor Road upgrading (Lot 1), aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate economic growth.
The scope of work includes designing and constructing a dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction. Additionally, the project involves building a flyover at Ashaiman Roundabout and an interchange at Asutsuare Junction.
The contractor will also construct 11 pedestrian footbridges, three river bridges, and other ancillary works such as drainage structures and walkways. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, inspected the works during a brief stopover on his way to the Volta and Oti regions.
The contractor has commenced earthworks between Asutsuare Junction and Akuse Junction to widen the road into a dual carriageway. Additional work fronts have been opened, including site clearing from Doryumu Junction towards Asutsuare Junction.
The project, which began in May 2022, has a 30-month duration and is expected to be completed in November 2024. The construction stalled in July 2023 due to the government’s debt exchange program, but its resumption is a significant step towards completing this vital infrastructure project.
