Arsenal kicked off their US tour with a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Bournemouth following a 1-1 draw.
Fabio Vieira opened the scoring for the Gunners in the first half with a clinical volley from Reiss Nelson’s cross. Bournemouth equalised in the second half when Antoine Semenyo’s shot took a deflection off Omar Rekik and found the net.
Karl Hein, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, was in impressive form, saving two penalties to keep his side in the shootout. Leandro Trossard was denied late on by Bournemouth’s Neto, forcing the match to be decided from the spot.
Mikel Arteta opted to rest Emile Smith Rowe, amid speculation linking him with a move to Fulham. The Arsenal boss explained, “There are things happening in the background and we decided the best thing to do was to keep him away from the game.”
Both teams now turn their attention to their next fixtures. Bournemouth conclude their California tour, while Arsenal face Manchester United in a highly anticipated clash at the SoFi Stadium on Saturday.
