Venice Film Festival 2024: Star-Studded Lineup with Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Sequel

The Venice Film Festival, renowned for its allure and prestige, is gearing up for a star-studded return this year after facing constraints during the previous edition due to a Hollywood actors’ strike. A galaxy of celebrities including Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jude Law are poised to grace the Lido with their presence as the festival unveils its official selections for 2024.

Commencing on August 28th with the highly anticipated world premiere of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a sequel to his 1988 classic, the event will culminate on September 7th. Todd Phillips’s “Joker: Folie à Deux,” a sequel to his award-winning film from 2019, promises to be a highlight in competition, featuring Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role alongside Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in a musical drama.

Among the contenders for the prestigious Golden Lion award is Pablo Larrain’s “Maria,” starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic opera singer Maria Callas. Pedro Almodóvar, in his English-language debut at age 74, presents “The Room Next Door,” starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Meanwhile, Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult lead Justin Kurzel’s crime drama “The Order.”

The festival not only sets the stage for cinematic excellence but also marks the beginning of the race for next year’s Oscars. Notable entries include Luga Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S Burrough’s “Queer,” featuring Daniel Craig, and Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” starring Adrien Brody. George Clooney and Brad Pitt will also bring their charm to Venice with Jon Watts’s action drama “Wolfs,” adding to the festival’s allure as a premier global platform for film premieres since its inception in 1932.
