The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has dismissed claims by a group of former casual workers demanding outstanding severance pay.
The authority contends that the matter was resolved through a Supreme Court ruling in 2014, and the workers’ current actions are a ploy to extort funds.
The GPHA explained that the workers were offered compensation packages during a 2001 port restructuring, but the group was dissatisfied with the amount.
Despite multiple legal challenges, the Supreme Court consistently ruled against their claims.
The authority warned the group against disrupting port operations with planned protests, emphasizing the security implications of such actions.
The former workers, represented by Moses Kwanayah, maintain that over 4,000 individuals were affected by the 2001 restructuring and have yet to receive adequate compensation.
