“Adongo: Mahama Rejects Debate with Bawumia to Avoid Further Exposing His Failed Record”

Story Highlights
  • Mahama won't debate Bawumia to revive his career.
  • Adongo questions Bawumia's credibility due to perceived dishonesty.
  • Akufo-Addo's 2020 debate avoidance questioned.
  • Bawumia challenged to meet the press instead of debating Mahama.

Isaac Adongo, a Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, has stated that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will not engage in a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Adongo, the reason for this is that Bawumia’s career is failing due to perceived dishonesty and incompetence, and Mahama will not help him revive it. This comes after the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, challenged Mahama to a debate with Bawumia, saying it would be an opportunity for Mahama to expose the government’s failures.

However, Adongo countered that Bawumia has failed as Vice President and lacks credibility due to his perceived dishonesty. Adongo questioned why President Akufo-Addo avoided debating Mahama in 2020. Adongo asked if Akufo-Addo’s refusal to debate was due to his lack of preparation or fear of being exposed.

Adongo challenged Bawumia to meet the press, as Mahama has done, to account for his actions instead of seeking a debate to revive his career. He stated that Bawumia’s request for a debate is not driven by a desire to discuss issues but rather to use Mahama to resurrect his own failing career.

Adongo accused Bawumia of being dishonest and incompetent, saying that he would only use the debate to lie and deceive Ghanaians. He emphasized that if Bawumia is confident in his performance, he should meet the press and answer questions instead of seeking a debate with Mahama.
