Emmanuel Chingwaru, a 23-year-old Zimbabwean, has been brought before a Magistrates’ court on charges of murder following a tragic incident that occurred on July 15, 2024. The altercation, which escalated into violence, reportedly began over the possession of an apple.
According to reports, the conflict started when Chingwaru forcibly took the apple from the victim, which had been given to him by a relative. The victim insisted on keeping the apple for himself, triggering a confrontation as Chingwaru resisted, intending to enjoy the fruit.
Allegedly, Chingwaru assaulted the victim severely, striking him multiple times on the head, nose, and mouth using his own head during the assault. The altercation escalated further when Chingwaru allegedly stabbed the victim behind his left ear.
Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a District Hospital. Chingwaru fled the scene following the incident but was apprehended by authorities two days later.
Chingwaru had his initial court appearance at the Chegutu Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings scheduled for August 2, 2024.
The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe has urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes and refrain from resorting to violence.
