“Whatever Position You Occupy, Let Service Lead” – Anglican Priest to politicians

Reverend Camillus Baba Ababagre, Parish Priest at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church, has emphasized the importance of leaders prioritizing the needs of others over their personal interests. In a sermon titled “Let us be attentive to the needs of others,” Rev Ababagre stressed that leaders must serve wholeheartedly, seeking the welfare of those they lead.

“Whatever position you occupy, let the service lead. Do not concentrate on satisfying personal selfish interest,” he urged. Rev Ababagre criticized leaders who prioritize their own interests, citing examples of men of God who live in luxury at the expense of their congregation, and politicians who amass wealth at the detriment of their constituents.

He emphasized that leaders, including pastors, politicians, teachers, and parents, must take care of those entrusted to their care and avoid exploiting them for personal gain. Rev Ababagre also condemned greed among family heads, noting that some parents prioritize their own interests at the expense of their children’s well-being.

“Let us always remember that we are put into leadership positions to take care of the people who put us there and, on whose behalf, we serve,” he added. Rev Ababagre drew inspiration from Jesus’ example, highlighting how he attended to the needs of the multitude and his disciples unconditionally. He called on Christians in leadership positions to commit themselves to serving others unconditionally.
