A couple’s ambitious sailing adventure across the Atlantic Ocean has come to a heartbreaking end. Sarah Packwood and her husband Brett Clibbery were found deceased on a life raft off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, nearly six weeks after their departure.
The British-Canadian couple embarked on their journey from Nova Scotia in their eco-friendly yacht, Theros, on June 2nd. Their destination was the Azores, roughly 3,228 kilometers away, with an expected travel time of 21 days. Sadly, they were reported missing on June 18th.
The cause of their demise remains unclear. An investigation is ongoing, but authorities suspect a collision with a large ship that may have gone unnoticed. Search efforts by the Canadian Coast Guard have not located any wreckage from the Theros.
Sarah and Brett, documented their journey, called the “Green Odyssey,” on their YouTube channel, Theros Adventures. The passionate couple aimed to complete their crossing using sustainable resources – wind, solar panels, batteries, and a repurposed electric car engine.
Their story extended beyond the adventure. They met in London in 2015 and married a year later on their yacht in Canada. Sarah, a humanitarian with experience working in Rwanda, and Brett, a retired engineer, were a couple united by adventure and a love for the environment.
Their final social media post on June 11th expressed their excitement for the second leg of their journey. While their dream remained unfulfilled, the spirit of their adventure and their commitment to sustainability will undoubtedly inspire others.
