Johnny Depp’s Latest Art Collection Honors Ex-Partner with Tarot-Inspired Portrait
Johnny Depp has unveiled a new collection of tarot-inspired artworks, featuring four pieces that draw from his life, dreams, and acting career. The collection includes “The Empress,” a tribute to his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis, whom he describes as “everything I could never be.”
In a video introduction to the collection, Depp shares his inspiration for each piece, including “The Empress,” which is based on a previous painting used for the cover of Paradis’ 2007 album “Divinidylle.” The portrait features a woman wearing a tarnished crown, symbolizing “courage and strength of commitment.”
Depp and Paradis were together from 1998 to 2012 and have two children, Lily-Rose and Jack. He began dating Amber Heard shortly after their breakup and went on to marry her in 2015.
The collection also includes “Strength,” which depicts an elephant and relates to Depp’s relationship with Paradis. He explains that the image was inspired by a previous painting created when she was pregnant with their first child.
Depp’s fascination with tarot is evident in the collection, which he describes as identifying “certain periods in my life.” Each piece is a representation of his personal tarot set, with “The Lovers” marking “the beginning of the story” and “The Emperor” representing a faceless figure who is “not necessarily to be trusted.”
The collection is available through Castle Fine Art and follows Depp’s successful first art release in 2022, which made millions in just a few hours. His return to the art world comes after a tumultuous period in his personal life, including high-profile lawsuits against ex-wife Amber Heard and UK publishers.
