The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has strongly criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for prioritizing campaigning and making empty promises over revitalizing the economy.

Mahama accused the NPP government of being out of touch with the current economic hardships faced by Ghanaians. He cited claims made by the party’s running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpass those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as evidence of the government’s lack of awareness.

During a mini durbar with the Chiefs and Elders of La-Bawuleshie and Mempeasem in the Ayawaso West Constituency, Mahama urged the NPP government to focus on addressing the nation’s current economic issues. He emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is to improve the economy, rather than making unfounded promises to win votes.

Mahama expressed disappointment that the NPP government has failed to acknowledge the severity of the economic crisis and has instead chosen to make grandiose claims about their achievements. He pointed out that with only five months left until the election, the government has ample time to take urgent measures to alleviate the economic situation.

Mahama questioned the government’s sincerity in making promises they claim will be fulfilled only after they are re-elected. He argued that the government can start implementing their promises now, rather than delaying them until after the election.

Mahama warned that the NPP’s tactics in 2016 will not work again, and that Ghanaians will not be swayed by empty promises. He concluded by reiterating the need for the NPP government to prioritize the economy and take concrete actions to address the current economic hardships faced by Ghanaians.
