Glen Powell Balances Hollywood Career with degree completion

Despite his rising fame, Glen Powell is committed to completing his degree in Spanish and early American history at the University of Texas. The 35-year-old actor, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You, and Twisters, plans to attend Zoom classes while filming his next movie, a remake of the 1987 sci-fi film The Running Man, in the UK.

In an interview with IndieWire, Powell explained that he will return to Texas “two or three times a semester” for supervised exams and will use distance learning to complete his coursework. “Edgar [Wright, the director] has been very nice about letting me finish my degree in the middle of his massive movie,” Powell said.

Powell recently moved back to his home state of Texas to be closer to his family and has expressed his desire to spend more time in Austin between projects. “I love being around people who love entertainment, and I love what [Hollywood] represents… But I realized that I need to refuel and do stuff like that in Austin,” he said.

The actor has been open about the importance of finishing his degree, which he started before his rise to fame. “I think it’s really important to my mom, and it’s more of an emotional thing for me,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in May. Powell’s parents and sisters are incredibly supportive of his career and often attend press events with him.

With his Hollywood career on the rise, Powell is grateful for the opportunity to balance his education and professional pursuits. “I have nothing against Hollywood… I just realized that I need to refuel and do stuff like that in Austin,” he said.
