Distress At Sea: Crew Rescued After Oil Tanker Capsizes Off Oman

A dramatic rescue unfolded in the Arabian Sea after the oil tanker MT Prestige Falcon capsized on Monday night.

Omani maritime authorities responded to the distress call after the vessel keeled over 25 nautical miles off the coast of Ras Madrakah.

Sadly, one crew member perished in the incident, while nine others were fortunately rescued. The crew, comprising 13 Indian and 3 Sri Lankan nationals, faced challenging conditions during the rescue operation with rough seas and strong winds hampering efforts.

The cause of the capsizing of the Comorian-flagged tanker remains unclear. Indian and Omani search teams are continuing their relentless efforts to locate the remaining six missing crew members.

India’s navy played a crucial role in the rescue, deploying a warship and a long-range reconnaissance aircraft to aid in the search.

This incident highlights the ongoing importance of Indian naval presence in the Arabian Sea, particularly in light of recent regional piracy concerns.

The MT Prestige Falcon, a vessel operational since 2007, was en route to the Yemeni port of Aden when the disaster struck.
