Argentina’s Celebration Goes Sour: Lloris Calls Out Offensive Song

Story Highlights
  • Lloris slammed a song sung by some Argentina players
  • He reiterated his stance against racism
  • Fernandez has since apologized

Former France captain Hugo Lloris slammed a song sung by some Argentina players after their Copa America victory, calling it “an attack on French people.”

He expressed hope it was a mistake and the players involved would learn a valuable lesson.

The controversy surrounds a video posted by Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, featuring Argentina players singing a chant deemed “racist and discriminatory” by the French Football Federation.

The song, originally sung by fans, mocks the heritage of France’s Black and mixed-race players.

Lloris, visibly shaken, emphasized that winning a trophy doesn’t excuse such behavior. “Winners hold even more responsibility,” he stated.

He reiterated his stance against racism and discrimination in football.

While acknowledging Argentina’s achievements, Lloris focused on the impact on younger fans. “They are role models,” he said, “and this song was a clear attack on the French people, especially those of African descent.”

Fernandez has since apologized, with both FIFA and Chelsea investigating the incident.
