“Akufo-Addo’s Road Construction Claim False, Says NDC MP”
- NDC MP disputes Akufo-Addo's claim of building 12,830km of roads.
- Calls it a false tactic to win votes in 2024 elections.
- Reveals actual road network built is 6,977km, not 12,830km.
- NDC to complete abandoned road projects if elected.
Isaac Adjei Mensah, a former Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways and the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Roads and Transport, has disputed President Akufo-Addo’s claim that his administration has constructed 12,830 kilometers of road across the country.
Mensah described the claim as erroneous and a false-hearted tactic to win over the masses ahead of the 2024 general elections. President Akufo-Addo had made the claim while commissioning a 40.4km Bechem-Techimantia-Akomadan road in the Ahafo Region, stating that the country has witnessed an extraordinary expansion and improvement in road network throughout the country.
The President highlighted that a total of 12,830 kilometers of road, including six interchanges, have been completed, with many others ongoing and to be completed in 2025. However, Mensah refuted the President’s claim in an interview with Onua News on July 18, describing it as paltry and a complete travesty. He explained that the claimed road network size extension to 94,203.17km by the NPP administration is provisional and invalidated.
Mensah put on record that from 2017 to 2024, President Akufo-Addo/Bawumia’s administration has constructed a total of 6,977 kilometers of road network, not the purported 12,830 Km. He further claimed that former President John Mahama outperformed President Akufo-Addo/Bawumia’s two terms in the road sector, constructing a total of 8,118 kilometers of road in just one term.
Mensah expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the upcoming December 7 polls and complete all the abandoned road projects in the country, including the uncompleted interchanges. He emphasized that the NDC is committed to improving the country’s road network and delivering on its promises to Ghanaians.
