- The attacks have hindered the distribution of aid
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) plays a vital role in providing humanitarian aid to millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has been under siege.
However, Israeli attacks and the blocking of crossings have hindered the distribution of aid to 2.3 million people, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UNRWA itself has come under attack. Since October 7, the agency has reported:
- 189 damaged installations
- 197 staff members killed by Israeli forces as of July 14
- Only 10 of 26 health centers in Gaza currently operational
- 458 incidents affecting UNRWA premises and personnel, including 74 instances of military use or interference
These statistics highlight the challenges UNRWA faces in providing crucial support to the displaced population in Gaza.
